The 2nd Naoussa International Short Film and Video Festival was held from 3 to 5 May 2005 in the Municipal Theatre of Naoussa. The Festival was organized by the civil, non-profitable company of art and culture ARTION under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, the Institute of Audiovisual Means, the Prefectoral of Imathia and the Municipality of Naoussa.
The sponsors of communication were the ALPHA channel, the newspaper MAKEDONIA and the magazines CINEMA and COOL. Sponsor of the Audience Award was HEINEKEN and gold sponsors were the BOUTARIS WINERY and SEVEN VIDEO NET.
Creators of 28 countries participated in the Festival, during which 107 films in total were projected in about 1000 minutes of competitive projections.
The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Christos Zahopoulos, general secretary of the Ministry of Culture, who expressed himself in a very warm way for the pioneering and promising venture of ARTION. The Festival was also attended by Mr. Billis, Prefectoral Councillor, Mr. Pappas, vice-mayor of Naoussa, Mr Patsos, President of the town council and Father Ioakim, prelatic church warden of Naoussa.
The event was hosted by the actress Stephanie Kapetanidi and the journalist Kosti Zafiraki.
One should stress the impressive presence of the audience, who supported the Festival fervently and had a most active role during the whole event. The two films that were shot during the three days of the Festival and that were projected at the closing ceremony indicate the warm and celebrating atmosphere that was prevailed in the Festival.
The Festival was positively commented both by the audience and the official guests. We are quoting briefly certain comments that were made during the closing ceremony.
Mr Giannis Lamprou, director and artistic consultant of the Festival, referred to the improvement of the Festival and to the great effort that has been made to engage its success. Finally, he stressed the dynamics of the event and its potential culmination next year.
The film-maker Emilios Adamopoulos rewarded the effort of ARTION and emphasized on the importance of the Festival in reference to the town of Naoussa, as well as on the need for support by the local authorities.On behalf of the judging committee Mrs Evagelinou asked both the organizers and the audience to maintain their enthusiasm.
Moreover, the event was haled by representatives of festivals abroad, which the International Festival of Naoussa collaborated with. On behalf of the CARDIFF SCREEN FESTIVAL, Mrs Sarah Howells thanked the organizers for the accommodation and talked in a most flattering way about the event, noting that it was a “marvellous cinema three-day event”.
Also impressed by the event were the representatives of the EMERGE AND SEE organization; Mrs Kathrin Schops and Mr Jan Gabbert, who thanked ARTION for the invitation and talked in a very fervent way about Naoussa, its citizens and its beauty, while they wished for an even better sequel.
The president of ARTION, Stergios Karanatsios, thanked all those who contributed to the success of the Festival in any possible way and repeated the commitment of ARTION to the organisation of high-levelled cultural events.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that during the Festival there were more than 40, mainly young, people, who offered their services in great enthusiasm and who did their best so that everything went right.
The 2nd Naoussa International Short Film and Video Festival was completed in ultimate success and as a result the organisers, the participants, the guests and the audience renewed their date for the 3rd Festival.
